Working while sick at home & Content Roadmap


Got the shitty news the other day that I tested positive for covid-19, been feeling a little under the weather for awhile but the good news is it gives me 10 days off.  And since I can't go anywhere its the perfect time to grind! The past couple of days I've been polishing and improving existing features. Still a lot of work to be done but I'm closer to the end then the beginning. With that being said I got some wild stuff to work on.

ROADMAP (so far)

NEW BUILDINGS & EXPERIMENTAL DESTRUCTION

Kester and Slendy have been a big help as of late, with them focusing on new models & textures for the game I can put all my attention on the coding. Once their building models are ready ill be adding them into the project along with some new destruction features like having building fragments above a recently destroyed fragment collapse to the ground. Im hoping little details like that will go a long way with making the buildings have some weight to them.

NPC DIALOG SYSTEM

Talking to npcs opens up a whole bunch of doors in regards to where I can take the gameplay. Little things like asking for favors or giving useful items to the player. They can give you important information in regards to evacuations or details about the martians whereabouts. However all bets are off when the tripods come, no one will be talking then. This will be quite a large undertaking for the project so its hard to tell when I can start working on this feature

INVENTORY & SURVIVAL MECHANICS

At the moment there's no inventory or hunger/thirst in this current version. Id like to add the system but I don't want it to fall into the same pitfalls as other survival games like always worrying about hunger or thirst.

CUSTOM GAME MODE

I think it'd be nice to add a custom gamemode screen for people who can complete the game on the Invasion difficulty. Including picking your start location, how long the invasion lasts, how many entities, etc. 

VR SUPPORT

This goes without saying, it will make it THE war of the worlds game if pulled off correctly. Probably need to start working on this soon cause your normally supposed to build those kind of games from the ground up to support VR. And you have to take alot of things into consideration with VR like existing mechanics and an interface that works for both PC and Oculus.

That's all I have for now, lets see how well this post ages in the next coming months :P

For custom game mode you sould add "be a tripod" somebody suggested it
